- The burst is under the slab. A slab leak repaired by jackhammering to the failure point is sometimes right — but often rerouting the line around the slab entirely is cheaper, faster and does not gamble on the rest of the buried run.
- Water hammer or pressure is the cause. If banging pipes or high mains pressure burst it, a patch treats the symptom. A pressure-limiting valve or hammer arrestor treats the cause — otherwise the next weakest joint is already queued up.
